Re: HDD click (excessive load-unload cycles)

Not a samsung F3 exclusive, my hard disk is a hitachi 7k3000 and I have the same troubles too: 12.9 no clicks, 13.x too many clicks.

As you can read in my latest posts I've been testing the drivers (each time with the procedure unplug power - swap sata channel), and my conclusions are:

Intel RST <= 12.9         APM stays disabled

Intel RST >= 13.x         APM gets enabled, and that's why you hear all the head parking clicks coming from the disk (new 13.2.0.1016 whql included)

Everything is documented on the previous page with screenshots and requested logs from msinfo and systemreport, for both 12.9 and 13.1 drivers.

Are there any APM default status/values stored on the hdd firmware?

In that case either the 12.9 driver is ignoring apm capabilities of the disk, or 13.x is forcing its use
