So, pursuing this a little bit further, I get that it looks at the disk when doing RAID configurations, so partitioning it and doing RAID 1 again will make no difference. However, I know one of the features of the "flexible data recovery" option is that you can see it as a disk in the file explorer, which maybe implies that the flexible data recovery option respects partitions? Is that correct, or does it also just look at it as a disk. The documentation is a little fuzzy on this because on the one hand it says the advantage of the flexible data recovery option is that you can actually mount the partition as a disk.
